Rodents for dinner can be deadly

It seems Salt and Pepper were not at the Owl Box last night. Hoping to see them tonight.

I would like to remind all of you about the dangers of using any kind of poisons. Using them has a domino effect on so many animals; including your pets. Even your children are not immune to the possibility of poisoning. I admit I am not great at writing about this subject, so I invite you to check the links page here and visit the websites. They all have excellent articles about this subject. If this isn't enough for you just 'google'  effects of rodenticides. Please help spread the word. Thank You.

I died today.
I was found by a kind, sweet woman who does wildlife rescue.
I was so sick, I could barely open my eyes.
She took me inside, cradling me in her warm arms, and made me warm and comfortable.
I opened my eyes and looked at her and thanked her for making my last few minutes as comfortable as possible.
But i was too sick to keep fighting anymore.
I had eaten a mouse that was poisoned, and it made me very sick.
I closed my yellow eyes for the last time and went somewhere else.
please, all I ask is never use poison to kill the mice.
poison kills owls, like me.
All I wanted was a mouse for dinner.
I died today....

Please SHARE this for poison awareness.
Stop the use of poison for rats or mice.
Please.
Save a precious life today.
it only takes one share to spread the word.

Silent Flight

An early arrival by Pepper at 6:45pm PST. She sat quietly, looking around. Seemingly watching the skies and following whatever she saw, with a head that kept turning back and forth. At 7:15 she spotted something and immediately takes off. As soon as she was off camera, I heard one screech. She returned to the side branch at 1:06, where she commenced preening her feathers. At 1:20am she was gone. Nothing to be seen after that until 3:29, she is back again. Pepper makes one more appearance after that. No sightings of Salt.

 Remiges

The surface of the flight feathers (Remiges) is covered by a velvety  structure that absorbs  sound of the wing movement. Along the edge of the Remiges is a comb like or fimbriate (fringe-like) edge of the primary wing feathers referred to as (flutings or fimbriae)which brings the flapping movement of the wing down to an almost nonexistent sound. The silent flight gives the owls the ability to hunt and capture prey by stealth, and also allows the owls to use it's hearing to pinpoint the flight pattern of the prey

FYI:

Why are owls perceived as being wise? Answer: Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, was often depicted holding an owl
