Did you ever get the "winter time blues"? It so sucks - think I have a bit of it today. Come on Spring! Took me all day to get over it and post the blog..I suppose better late than never.
Perhaps not quite as exciting as last nights, but promising. Most of the night Salt and/or Pepper just roosted on the branches. Three mating sessions were observed, only once Pepper took off with a screech in pursuit of what must have been another owl. The most exciting part of the night was when they both entered the box, which went like this ~ 5:43am Salt goes in the box (Pep is on front branch), Salt calling her to come in and visit. Pep moves to the entryway, at which time Salt gets louder and more excited. Pepper being her usual cautious and stubborn self! He calls for 3 minutes before she decides to go in. While you watch the video listen to the sounds; when both are in you can hear a lot of tongue clicking. This is something new for them and I have been hearing it a lot this season. (I read that it is part of courtship) Since so close to daylight we were hoping they would stay in the box, not this time: they spent approximately ten minutes in the box and left. Salt needs to bring that gift into the box to get her to stay. Something else I've noticed this year is the lack of togetherness and bonding. They are spending this year on different branches mostly and I have yet to see any bonding...what's up with that!
